Dear Fran,
Congratulations on your retirement after an extraordinary 31 years of leadership and service to NANT. While I was surprised to learn that you are stepping away from day‑to‑day management, I am even more filled with admiration and gratitude as I reflect on all that you have helped build.
Having been involved with NANT in various roles for the past 43 years, I have had a front‑row seat to many chapters of our association’s journey—but the last three decades working alongside you stand out as truly transformational. Many of our newer members may not realize just how humble our beginnings were, or how much perseverance it took to keep the organization moving forward in its earliest days.
When you assumed management of NANT in 1995, the association was still finding its footing. Our conferences were modest by today’s standards, and participation was limited enough that I sometimes brought my own family along, hoping to see more faces in the room. Those were challenging years, requiring commitment, faith, and an unwavering belief in the value of what NANT could become.
Your decision to step in during that period quite literally rescued NANT, even at a time when compensation was uncertain and far from guaranteed. You took on that responsibility with remarkable courage, armed with a clear vision and a dream—to elevate NANT to a place of recognized leadership and lasting impact within the dialysis community. Through your guidance, persistence, and steady stewardship, that vision became a reality.
Under your leadership, NANT achieved milestones that reshaped opportunities for technicians across the country. Chapter development flourished, membership grew, educational materials expanded, and our conferences became vibrant, well‑attended forums for learning and connection. Just as importantly, dialysis providers placed immense trust in your leadership and in your direction, generously supporting technician education by sponsoring conference attendance and investing in our study materials.
Those accomplishments did not come easily—but they are precisely what make NANT the strong, respected organization it is today. The foundation you helped build will continue to benefit generations of technicians and leaders long into the future.
As you enter this next chapter of your life, I hope you do so with pride in the legacy you leave behind and with many cherished memories of the association you helped nurture, protect, and grow. On behalf of dialysis technicians everywhere, thank you for your dedication, perseverance, and belief in the mission of NANT.
I also extend my best wishes to the next Executive Director, with sincere hope that they will follow your footsteps and continue advancing NANT to even greater heights.
With deepest appreciation and warmest wishes for a fulfilling retirement,
Sincerely,
Philip Varughese
